when switching on and F8 button is pressed for a basic startup I opted for 'launch startup repair'.
the screen just changes to:
status 0x0000225.
boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I cannot get any other response from the computer. it will not even respond to the first of the recovery discs to reinstall windows.
I have researched several websites but no success.
help would be appreciated.

Try ESC or DELETE keys instead of F8 to get into BOOT OPTIONS and see what it is set to boot from..You may have to go into your BOIS to find this out..
OR...
Check the Hard Drive? Hook it up externally to another computer and see if you can access it..If not, see if it is listed in your Disk Management list. If it does not show up, I would say it was a bad Hard Drive. It's usually a Master Boot Record corruption, but your getting a required device is inaccessible message...not an MBR corruption message.
