The Ryobi P202 part of the Ryobi One+ series. This model is an 18-volt cordless 1/2 inch drill, and is bright green and grey in color. It has a built in level gauge and a two gear ratio switch on the top of the drill, along with a direction switch, magnetic tray, and drill bit clip.

Why is the drill making strange clicking sounds when in use?

When I use the drill it is making clicking sounds.

There are different settings on the drill for drilling holes and driving screws. If you are trying to drive a screw and the drill is in a lower speed setting, which is used when drilling holes, then a clicking sound could occur.

I think what the 1st guy meant was that the drill/driver has a range of torque settings for driving screws, adjusted by turning the collar behind the chuck. This is used to prevent stripping or breaking the screw. When the torque is exceeded, the driver slips and makes a loud clicking noise.

For drilling it is normally set to the highest setting.

What about that click that some drills make when you stop “drilling”. My drills don’t do this, but it seems like newer high dollar ones (esp Milwaukee) do this.
