What is the best way to tell if my tab really needs motherboard replacement?
It does not boot/power on, only blank screen when on charge, but mildly heats up at the back side.

It seems to be your Power management module not functioning properly. if you have BGA reworking skills you can replace it. otherwise best solution is motherboard replacement.
