What latest logic board can fit an iMac 20" A1224 EMC2133

Hi everyone,

I'm projecting to upgrade an old iMac a1224, EMC2133

Specs: 20" screen, 2.4GHz, 1Gb Ram;

When disassembling the iMac, the following were missing - small button battery, IR receiver was broken, internal mic (near the iSight Camera) was literally torn off, and the bracket holding the button battery is broken.

My project is quite simple, find out which latest iMac logic board can fit in the casing or at least which CPU and GPU can fit the system if I were to upgrade those two.

The reason for such an upgrade is quite simple, I can't afford to buy a new iMac but at least I can repair the one currently available.

I would focus on repair what you have here before going down the upgrade path.

Generally, you can swap logic board between the systems of the same series. In your case the 20" iMac7,1. As to upgrading the CPU alone you are limited to what Intel offers that fits the socket and meets the TDP the system was designed for. Here's the Intel CPU info for your system: T7700.

thanks for the clear and concise response. Clearly my only option is to keep the same hardware and replace the broken mic and IR receiver.

Yes, thats best here. If you want something with more power maybe you can see this system and put the money to a newer model (used or new)
