LCD screen display a white screen with lines running back and forth.

Is there something that needs to be fixed or is the camera so out of date it can't be fixed?

What would cause the screen to go white and display only lines running up and down? I have not used it in a long time but have tried on several occasions to fix it myself per the guide books but that does not help. I hear the lens moving so I don't think that the lens is the problem.
