Trackpad Does not Function Properly

When I was replacing battery, I ran the MacBook Pro for a few days on the power adaptor only while waiting for battery to arrive. During this time the track pad worked just fine, clicks and all. Then I put in the new battery - and back to "no press, no click". Is this some spacer/spacing issue? Do you have a "separator" or something. This is a mid 2009 unibody MBP, now flying with 2 SSD's!! :)
