Why can't I get past the Start screen?
I can log on, the Start screen gets up, but I cannot move past it. Nothing will open or respond. Windows 8 is installed.

Hi,
Try starting your Win8 laptop in safe mode.
Here is a link. Read the opening preamble so that you know what it is about, then scroll down to Getting into safe mode in Windows 8,8.1 and 10. and follow the info to get to the Troubleshooting option.
