Why does my iPod say very low Battery?

So i have replaced the battery and the hard drive to a photo drive. My ipod wont hold a charge at all now and i dont know why or what the problem could be. it says "please wait very low battery" and it has been on charge for several hours. it showes a battery with a circle and a slash threw it.

Hi Mallory

Assuming that your new battery is good and is connected properly you may need to put your iPod into disk mode, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201544 , then connect it to a wall charger. This can sometimes fix this issue. If it doesn't you may want to double check the batteries connection just to make sure it is seated properly.
