My laptop has Windows 8.1 and I previously had it connected to an ethernet cable but switched to WLAN about a month ago. Today, my internet settings do not detect any sort of Wireless network, only the no ethernet icon appears.

Go to the Device Manager page by searching for it in the windows search bar and look for the WIFI module/driver that is in your device and make sure that it is enabled. In your internet settings, make sure that the WIFI button is selected.

maybe is it the same problem like touchpad , press FN +F3 to switch WiFi on or off
