Is it the battery or charging port?

I disassembled an Ipad Air 1 as it does not charge when plugged in. I've tried switching lightning cables (all OEM) and even with the correct wall adapter. When I try hard reset, the image of the drained battery appears, that is all. The iPad does not respond at all when cable is plugged in.

The battery reads an output of 3.5v. Since your videos say 9 times out of 10 it is NOT the charging port.

Would a malfunctioning battery display a 3.5v output?

Thank you for your assistance!

That does sound like a dead battery, it should be at least 3.7v. Replace the battery and see if that fixes it.

Ok, I did order a battery to be safe. Would the battery also cause the charging port to not recognize when the cable is plugged to the phone? The owner said he would wiggle the cable and ultimately it stopped recognizing it all together. I tried cleaning it to no avail.

its possible but I can't say I've ever seen it. If it were me, I'd order another Lightning port just to make sure. Its a pretty cheap part and you're already going to have the iPad tore down. I would replace both at the same time since it sounds like the battery is not in peak shape and it for sure sounds like the connector has seen better days.

I just hate doing work twice, so I'd do both repairs so I didn't have to rip it apart again.
