Battery percenatage display issues

When I charge or discharge my battery..it works as a normal battery would. But the android system does not detect the battery percentage and always displays it as 50%. So i can't be sure since any moment the battery can go down to 0% and the phone will turn off with the system still showing the battery as 50%.
