lawnflite 906 with B S Engine correction Murray
I have a lawnflite ride on mower and when I started it up white smoke and oil came out of the briggs & stratton engine muffler it ran for a few moments then stopped. there does not appear to be any oil on the spark plug. any ideas anyone
whitish/grey on start up for about 1 minute or so

Jimmy, check to ensure the crank case is not overfilled with oil, carburetor float/ fuel shut off solenoid may have stuck allowing gas into engine overfilling engine oil, if this is the case fix carb. and change oil/drain thoroughly and fill using fresh proper grade oil, before starting again. There are a lot more reasons for engine to smoke this is one of the common ones along with blown head gasket.

it seems to have done the trick, now the starter solinoid just goes click and its a new battery fitted
my mistake its not a lawnflite but a murray with a b/s engine
Jimmy recheck that battery is fully charged about 12.4 volts or better, make sure all wire and terminals are clean and tight. Solenoid could be faulty. Good luck.
Briggs & Stratton blows oil when breathe filter is removed!!!
Also if gas is leaking into cylinder, sometimes they won't crank well.. if at all. Pull spark plug and turn it over. 'Caution accumulated gas is likely to spray out spark plug hole.' Clean plug, reinstall. See if it turns over now.
i just needed a pull string and my son let someone sell him a head without a breather change the oil put new spark plug in and it start throwing oil out pipe smoking stop running what cold be the problem?

@jimmbo what Briggs and Stratton engine does your mower have? Could be a valve issue as well as rings, piston etc. Your spark plug face looks normal?

@jimmbo white/ grey smoke and now the starter does not turn the engine over? Can you turn the engine by hand? Worst case scenario could be a seized engine.
