Ipad needs a new battery every 2 months

Hi, first time posting but I have been a tech for a few months and I have run into a bit of an issue that maybe you guys can help me with. I have a customer with a ipad 4 that he has returned to us multiple times because the battery has died. We replace it and 2-3 months later like clockwork he is back with a battery that no longer seems to function. As soon as the battery is replaced the ipad works fine but I know in 2 months time he will be back with what is now essentially a paperweight. My first guess is that he leaves it plugged in at all times but he claims otherwise. Hopefully somebody else has seen and can give me some insight into this issue

Even if he keeps it plugged in permanently it shouldn't die in 2-3 months. Have you tried different suppliers for batteries? Are you making sure that the batteries you put in there are not ancient? (made before 2013ish)

First try to put the dead battery into another ipad, so if it works, then you know for sure that it's the ipad problem which is having issues with batteries... (& maybe try a battery from another 3 month ipad if it works on this...)

I currently don't have another Ipad to test the battery in but I tried a new battery in his Ipad and it booted and charged just fine. Before I couldn't get a response from it at all.

verify that he is using a certified charging cable. The only possibility I can think of is a damaged charging IC that is throwing the wrong amps to the battery or possibly seeing the battery as dead when its not. The only real way to check this would be to try the "dead" battery in a different iPad or to measure the amps at the battery connector.

After talking with him he said that it will work just fine until the battery gets to low or becomes drained. Once drained then no matter how long you leave it on the charger it will not charge back up. I am currently trying to get my hands on another Ipad to test his battery in. It only shows 1.6volts on the multimeter when it should have 3.7.

so if you remove the battery, the logic board is throwing 1.6V?

My bad, the battery is giving me 1.6 volts on the multimeter

It really looks like a U2 (1608a) Ic power chip issue.
