My lock screen won't come on

I have a Samsung Core Prime with Android. It's all fully updated. I used my phone this morning and realised that I didn't unlock the screen first. I went into the Settings and tried changing the lock commands to see if I could get it back on and it just won't lock. I'm nervous about keeping my phone unlocked all the time and want this fixed, so any help is appreciated!
