I get a printer error and it tells me to clear paper jam which I have

U more than likely still have paper jammed where u can't see it. Have u lifted the main lid as well looking into the machines mechanics? There is a wheel that feeds the paper through machine . Spin a few rotations and see if more paper appears or comes out.

lol not even the right kind of printer for this. Link go to hp printers.
as a actual printer tech who has seen some tens of thousands of printers across my bench, i would suggest trying to get some heavy paper like a stiff magazine cover and trying to run it thru the paper paths. There are some sensors that tell the printer if paper is in it or not and either one of these is stuck down indicating paper, or the printer's pick up roller isn't grabbing paper because of dust, etc... stuck to it so it thinks it can't get paper because of a jam. Clean the pick up roller and seperation pad and try again. or go for a reset on the printer.
