Hello, i had the same problem. To solve this turn off the camera press hard on rotating button and rotate it around while still pressing hard on it. Do it several times. Should cure the problem. Good luck.

I had the same problem too and this answer has fixed it. The camera shop where I bought it clearly didnt know this fix!

Hello this help totally fixed my problem. Thank you so much indeed. I am so happy to have my camera working properly the same way as it was brand new! Thank you so much :)

Awesome!!! It worked perfectly. Thanks so much :)

HOLY COW! Thank you so much for this fix! I have had my Cybershot DSC HX50V for over 7 years and for 5 of those years it has been frustratingly uncontrollable.

I’m so excited to be able to use my camera again. I was always afraid when trying to delete an image that it would delete the wrong one or delete everything because the menu would flip randomly through all the options. ''

Thank you for saving me the cost of a repair that might not have even solved the problem!

From a (now) happy photographer in Florida

wow - that easy

thanks a lot!

Tried the press hard and twist about 20 times but it didn't work. I decided the pressing hard and turning the option button around must mean the contact below the dial was corroded. I sprayed all the buttons on the back and top with Contact Cleaner (WD40 contact cleaner) and twisted the dial back and forth while pressing down on it. No luck. Tried again, and YES!!!!! It worked! WhooHoo!!!!

Before using a contact cleaner do we need to take off some parts of the camera or just spray it on the dial?

@pixelpnutz *** Just do the following: Remove the Battery, and leave the Battery Compartment Door open. Try to keep the Top of your Camera Tilted Forward about 15°, I also Sprayed Away from the Screen. Do a short spray, about 1/2 second long, while you Rotate the Menu-Wheel during the Process, and do it at least a 2nd time. Last, allow the Electronics Cleaner to Dry. I waited 5 Minutes...

Remember to use that small plastic tube that fits into the end of the Spray Nozzle. That way you'll have better control of your Aim... And like I mentioned above, Wait 5 minutes for the Cleaner to Dry. That's what I did. The Liquid in the Cleaner is close to Wire-Dryer, but it's made for Electronics, ie: PCBs

I had tried fixing the problem without using the spray, by just pressing on the Menu-Button, while Rotating it, but it didn't work. I also decided to stop Rotating that Wheel while the inside was dry because I didn't want to damage the PCB...

For those of you who decided to read this comment, Sony made over a dozen different Models that exactly matched the DSC-HX50v, which is the Model I have, so the Cleaning Process is the same... Hope this helps anyone that decides to use a Spray Cleaner... Dan
