@kemisi ,Kerry Simms remove the small interior trim cover opposite of taillight being remove, unplug harness and remove the 2 nuts holding taillight, pop out tail light. Reverse procedure for install. The 1st link shows how to access taillight to enable you to gain access to the mounting bolt/nuts. The second link shows you a clear pic. of the tailight and mounting bolts that nuts must be removed from to remove taillight.The The links below will aid in the removal process. Good luck.

Unfortunately my highlander is an 07, the answer given was for 08 +, thanks for the try!
@kemisi, Kerry Simms, UPDATED, Use the written instructions and the video link in my original answer and you should not have a problem removing taillight. I also posted a link to what the taillight looks like from the back side showing the 2 mounting studs, just click through the different views below the pic. If not comfortable doing this, take into a good shop and have a technician do it for you, approx 1/2 hour labor charge.
First link is worthless, it simply takes you to an advertisement for lightbulbs. It doesn't show you how to remove a tail light assembly, something required if you are attempting to change out a side marker bulb. Second link is also worthless, it just takes you to ebay listing of tailight assemblies.
