Display has vertical THIN green line...

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

A client gave me an A1224 2.4Ghz iMac he was going to toss due to issues...

Replaced OS, started and ran fine, but had multicolored vertical lines on it, super thin ones like maybe 1-3 pixels wide, red, green ones. took a screenshot and the lines were NOT in the screenshot so I deduced from research that the display was the issue. I purchased a guaranteed working one from eBay, and when I installed it, it worked fine for an hour or two, then the mac went to sleep and when it woke up it had a single green line on the NEW display running top to bottom.

Question is, with another line on this display, the same problem is happening, so is there a chance my original display is still good, and my issue is with my logic board and/or GPU?

Forgot to add I picked up a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter and hooked it up to my Pioneer plasma in my living room, and the line was NOT there...

Which should I check next? Id rather buy one or the other, but I dont know which one to buy to try and eliminate the problem. I have not removed the logic board yet to even see if there are perhaps any bad solder joints I could possibly reflow...I just wanted to see if anyone here could put in their .02 worth...

Thank you!

Was this issue resolved?, because I just inherited this same machine with the exact same problem.

If yours has the same symptoms on the internal display but the external is clean then you have a bad cable or the connection is bad iMac Intel 20" EMC 2210 & 2133 LCD Flex Cable

You have a bad LVDS cable or the connectors are damaged. Here's the LVDS part: iMac Intel 20" (EMC No. 2210 or 2133) LCD Flex Cable - Apple P/N 593-0504

For reference here's the IFIXIT guide: iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 Display Panel Replacement

A failing cable can create odd patterns or even a line across the LCD.

Ordered.

How did you come to the LVDS conclusion, if you don't mind me asking?

I asked this question somewhere else a minute ago, but I cant seem to find it. But yeah, just wondering the process of elimination you used!

Experience ;-} Seen it a few times before.

The cable can get stressed if you're not careful when disassembling. You can also damage the connector header on the logic board or display.

I just swapped the cable from the original display i thought was bad onto the new display...no change at all. Took cable from new display and put it on original display. No change in either display, and all lines were still there...single green on new panel, and various colored lines on original panel. One cable is kind of folded over at the 90 degree bend, but the other is in good condition. Still think it's a cable? is there anything else it can be? Aside from the connector header? I mean can power supply be eliminated? can GPU be eliminated? I plan on using the guide tomorrow to remove the logic board to see if anything looks odd such as swollen caps or broken solder joints...

We can also look at this logically: You know the GPU is OK as you stated the external display did not show them. You also stated both displays showed the same defect. The only thing left is the interconnection between the logic board and display as well as the connection point of the cable on the logic board.

You've ruled out everything else as the system is working perfectly otherwise.

Take some pictures of the header on the logic board and the pins of the cable end. and post them here in a new answer. We need to see the pin surfaces as well as the headers solder joints and the clasps.

Ok, here we go...here is an Imgur link with a handful of pics in it:

I myself did not really see any issue, but another set of eyes is greatly appreciated. I used a macro lens but i had a case on my phone so it did not sit flush on the camera, hence the bowed/rounded look on some of the pics...the socket/LVDS cable end with the male socket on it is NOT bowed/bent despite what it looks like in the pics!
