Dropped my iPod and smashed the metal so the button is stuck down.

I dropped my ipod nano and indented the metal part on the top around the on/off button while simultaneously making the button go down and be stuck. I had the metal "cut out" but the button is still stuck down. I was told it may be the spring? I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about any of this so any help with a possible home repair would be great. I don't have the cash to bring it to Apple to get it fixed. Thanks
