Black screen when turned on, no power to usb ports,no external display

i just bought an imac from a friend, and he knew something was wrong with it but wasnt sure what, so i bought it to try and fix it but i am completely stumped.

When i power it on i can hear the fan and HDD spin up but the screen stays black. I tried the flashlight test and i still cant see anything on the screen.

There is also no power to the USB ports so i cannot connect a keyboard, I've tried 3 different keyboards.

I also opened it up to check the diagnostic LED's 1, 2, and 3 all light up, but 4 does not.

I have reseated the RAM, checked the connections to the LCD screen etc...

But still nothing! Based on previous threads it looks like the logic board may be the issue. Is that it?

Sadly, I think you hit it! The PCH chip on the logic board is likely gone. I hope you didn't pay to much or have the option on getting your money back.

If your game to get it working here's the IFIXIT guide to replace the logic board: iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 Logic Board Replacement & here's the part you'll need: iMac Intel 20" (EMC No. 2133) Logic Board - Used.

Just keep in mind your system can't run any of the newer OS-X/MacOS's So you are a bit vulnerable and Safari version can't access the newer HTML coded pages.

It's still a great system for writing or other stand-alone apps.

Okay thanks for your help, I didn't pay hardly anything for it. I basically bought just to try and fix it to use as a computer for iTunes and garage band and things like that.

The IFIXIT part is quite cheap! It's worth the gamble if your up to it.
