Why is my MacBook constantly crashing?

I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (15 inch late 2011) (A1286) that always crashes whilst on battery power. When using the MagSafe charger, I can use it as normal.

The crashes have no errors on and the furthest I have gotten to using the MacBook on battery, is the desktop. The crashes are like a complete power disconnection (think unplugging a TV from the socket). And when I power the MacBook back on with the charger, the clock have been reset. If I disconnect the charger whilst the MacBook is switched on, the crash happens within seconds.

I have ordered a replacement battery so will test that out however my current battery charges properly and the condition is normal (see below).

I opened the MacBook and the battery looks fine and is connected properly. I ran the Apple hardware test and it returned a ram error. The MacBook was upgraded to 16gb but I don't think this would be the cause. I did remove the ram modules one by one and crashes still happened.

Factory wiped the MacBook to no avail also.

Whilst researching the issue, I believe I require a MagSafe 85W L shape charger but I currently have a MagSafe 60W L shape charger. Could you this be the issue ? (I ordered the battery before realising this )

Any help will be appreciated.

First I do recommend you use the correct MagSafe charger and make sure you get a real unit not a fake! Best to go the Apple Store or order online with Apple. Here's a bit more on the bad units: Counterfeit Macbook charger teardown: convincing outside but dangerous inside & Lacking safety features, cheap MacBook chargers create big sparks.

Here's a good reference on what you need: Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook

OK, heres the deal your battery appears to be charged so while you may not have the correct charger the system should still run on battery without any problems. If you have the MagSafe plugged in you could encounter a crash if you are pushing the system hard with a heavy process or two. See if the system is stable on battery alone. If it still crashes then you have a deeper problem.

im unsure of your last sentence.

On charge, the system is stable and I have yet to encounter a crash.

On battery, the furthest I have ever got to using the MacBook is just after the desktop being loaded.

If I'm using it on charge and then remove the charger so the battery is engaged, it crashes within seconds.

Not good ;-{

Lets try doing a SMC reset to see if that solves the crash. Follow this Apple T/N: Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac.

As you are not over stressing the system process wise the MagSafe charge was able to keep the system powered.

@shoaib7062 - Open your preferences and go to the Energy Saver settings. At the top is a check off 'Automatic graphics switching' toggle the Battery & Power Adapter buttons just below, is the check off set on on both and if one one which is it set on.

naquaush - Yes this system has issues with the GPU failing. But! That would be the case in both power modes - Battery alone and plugged in MagSafe. We are missing something here.
