When powering up my laptop, it will light up for 3 - 4 seconds and then shut down and power back up again. I've tried holding the power down without battery and AC adapter for at least 10 seconds. I'm getting the same results. I tried removing the memory and then powering it up. I'm getting the same results. What could be the problem?

This could be an issue with the battery not getting a charge from the power adapter . Test it with a multi meter . This video shows how to test the adaptor

I have a similar problem, the output from the adapter is 19vdc so power in is apparently good. I have tried a new hard drive and booting from a recovery CD as well as a safe mode boot with no success. It is apparently never getting to the BIOS. I suspect some kind of internal power on reset or mother board problem but don't want to start throwing money at. Anyone else had a similar problem? This is an old VISTA machine vintage about 2009.
