Why is my screen flashing on and off?

The HP Split x2 is a 13" hybrid tablet/laptop combination was sold in mid-2013. The HP split is easily identified by its pull apart design.

The screen will go black for a second and come back on randomly. How can I fix it?

DJ - Does it do this when you move the lid up and down? Test it and if it does you may have a video cable that is shorting out.
