Network Errors and Remote Issues

So my Amazon Fire Tv Stick keeps giving me network connection error messages, but when I go to fix them my remote won't work. I've changed the batteries in the remote, restarted the fire stick, unplugged the power source, EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF! And still nothing. Now, I'd use the remote app for Fire TV, the only promblem is that my phone and the tv both need to be connected to the same network. Please help!!
