How do I get rid of the vertical lines on my screen?

I've had this computer for over three years now and I've never had any issues. For the last week a section of my screen was flickering- if I moved or adjusted the screen it went away. However 2 days ago the lines appeared and they will not go away no matter what I do.

I moved my screen in a way it apparently didn't want to move today and the lines turned black and white. After pressing on the black section that conects the laptop the coloured lines replaced the white section. This is what my screen currently looks like.

I'm taking it into an Apple Store tomorrow but I'm a poor uni student so Im open to any suggestions any of you may have!!

MacBook suddenly has inverted/flickering vertical strip on the screen references an older model but it sounds like a very similar problem. One solution says to try replacing a cable, but he tried that and it didn't work, so he ended up replacing the screen. There's a link to parts in the guide if you do end up using it.

To verify things I would recommend plugging in an external display to be sure. The external should have a good image.

Most likely the screen is damaged here, often a good bang our something heavy was placed on the system. Even a pencil or pen on the keyboard and the display closed forcefully can damage it. Time for a new screen ;-{

So one day I updated my system and the next day the display show lines. I took it to apple care and they said the had to be replaced. How is that possible?

They did not even bother to do any fix. Are all the issues apple systems have a single solution to replace the part?

On top of that, we don't even get the broken part. They said it is taken back by apple guys. What the !&&*.

Hi Elise, I have the SAME problem with my MacBook air. Did you by chance ever figure out what to do? Money is so tight right now, and can’t afford a new screen.

Were you guys able to get any answers for this? Apple service guys are asking to directly replace the whole screen and I cannot afford that right now. I am very frustrated with the service.

Hi,

I have same problem with my macbook air, replacement of screen is very costly affair. Service centre told to replce the whole screen panel, and its cost Rs.34700/- + 2k for service.

Any one can help us if any solution.

I had this problem twice after cleaning the screen with a liquid prescription glass cleaner. In hindsight, I realise that I probably allowed some liquid to seep under the frame at the bottom of the screen.

The first time, the problem resolved itself after about a week.

The second time, after reading a comment that this problem can be caused by moisture, I put the MacBook Air into the warm cupboard that contains our hot water cylinder. After having it there for two days, the lines had gone.

Now I'm more careful with my cleaning and the problem hasn't reappeared.
