Will not power on

My device will not power on. It has been docked for 2 wks, without luck. How do I know if it's the device or the charging station that needs replacing? I have tried to troubleshoot myself using all the methods previously outlined on this website, but the screen remains totally black! It is less than 2yrs old...help!!!
