Still buzzing sound but nothing

Need some advice please

You could have taken your motor out vacume blow clean ch rock bearings, lubricate , apply voltage it will have worked, cost 1-2 hrs $5-$10

&&^&^$^ love you for this! It worked!! My wife thinks I’m a genius. Lol

Ok I took my top off my LG dryer and I push start and it hums I spin the drum clockwise and she keeps going, but when I open the door and it stops when I push the button it hums again??? Is it the capacitor or motor???? If the motor wasn’t $225usd I’d order them both!!!

If it's the motor buzzing/humming when the start button is pushed then it likely has a bad motor. Open the door and manually reach in and rotate the drum in the counter clockwise direction for a couple of complete revolutions and then shut the door and see if the dryer will start. If the dryer starts; this would indicate a bad motor and it will need to be replaced. If it does not start and continues to hum try this; Open the door and press and hold the door switch in. Rotate the drum counter clockwise and have some one press start while the drum is turning. If the dryer starts, replace the motor.

Open dryer , take motor out, vacuum all lint, or blow away from motor, see if spindle turn, disasemble motor, clean lubricate , replace any worn bearings ( none) , reassemble motor , apply voltage.

Reinstall , cost $10

I though This site is called ifixit , not I replace it.

If buzzing but not turning unless you spin it by hand and quickly shut door and press start, then it is not usually a bad motor, just a bad start/run capacitor. A new motor may cost as much almost as much as a new machine, a new capacitor might give you change out of £10 / $12

Brilliant mate, except it's a pretty low cost machine that costs as much as a new motor a year ago motors were about $150 usd five or take , my SS large capacity dryer cost $1200 cdn,

But you're correct could be start /run capacitor, most people don't realise capacitors can go bad.

Also though blowing out , lubricating cleaning your entire motor and the rest of the parts yourself is a great exercise in getting to know that various, user replaceable parts , pulley, drum roller wheels, belt,

While there is a trick to holding the motor spindle while trying to take off the "gear" there are a few great YouTube videos on motor changing . Takes half hour max , less for a pro.

Those who are going to pay someone to do it for you, you should be looking for a new dryer. That's how those that can end up with your dryer so they have a new one , and the second hand reconditioned units.

We thank you :)

If you're willing to i-fixit then you're laughing , motors can be found on lots of sites including Amazon

My dryer, Estate-electric 17 yrs old, is making the buzzing sound only.. it does not start after “helping” it.. here is some recent background:

Recently changed thermostat because dryer just shut off one day.

Following was done prior:

Test thermal fuse-good

tested timer too bc prior i noticed it would not shut off in the auto cycle.. but would shut off in the 30 min high heat cycle.

When tested, timer did not have a completely wrong reading on my multi-meter but it was diff I don’t remember exactly what reading was but i remember thinking that it was definitive enough for me to purchase a new timer over other possible culprits.

After repair, worked for a couple weeks on 30 min cycle. dried clothes one day on the high heat auto cycle back to no action.. just buzzing.

Sometimes the blower fan might get plugged with lint that may stop the motor

Thanks for the hint: “Sometimes the blower fan might get plugged with lint that may stop the motor.”

In my case, when I checked blower with flashlight after removing lint filter, I found one of my socks half way into the blower. I pulled it out with a tool designed to remove plugged hair in bathroom drain. Easy fix and saved me time, money and miseries of going through buying process of new dryer over this long weekend of 4th July.

Really appreciated the tip on the site. Love it.🙏🏽

I just had the buzzing sound and it ended up being lint packed in the motor housing. It very well could of started on fire. If you have that buzzing sound go on Google and look up your model to see how to take the panel off to get to your motor. Even if you can get it moving again by some of these suggestions it doesn't mean you still shouldn't get in there and check why it buzzed in the first place. I took out a couple handfuls from mine. My dryer is an older GE model and other than the drum comin off with the front panel it was fairy easy. If I would of know that I could of had someone reach in and hold the drum in place while I pulled the front panel off.
