Hi Kvark LT, try checking your Samsung MZVPV256HDGL with apple diagnostic tool first, you may also perform extended test to your computer.

Let us know the results.

Thanks Dan, ITs new and its working 100% - question is that I need to change in configuration (new macbook user :)) to make it start from this disk. Then I boot from Hight Sierra usb flash - disk is visible and disk tool dont have any complains. I am windows user, its sounds for me like i should mark partition to be bootable? But not sure how to do that in macos

Th installer would have set the internal drive as the boot. If it didn’t or couldn’t then you’ll need to start the system without the external and press and hold the option key to get the boot manager to then select the internal drive. Once you’re running go into prefs and alter the startup disk setting. That should fix that. If not the adapter is bad.

So, TADAM! I solve it :) As I was expecting firmware should be updated. I dont find how to do that separately.

So just in case if somebody will follow my way - I borrow apple ssd from my friend laptop (backup, use for my purpose, then restore) Did clean install on it - all went fine, then do update High Sierra (its download something that required reboot) then continue till finished. I check ssd format its becomes AFS, so I took apple drive, replace with mine adaptor and m2 and boot same way and set it to be AFS as well, then do install as usually, and bingo! It able to startup from it without any issues.

Hi, do you think that update was related with some internal firmware update? Im struggling with same problem now, but only possibility for me is run macbook from usb drive with os instaled on it.

의 답변

yes it is, its related to that High Sierra updating partition structure, so to be able to read that it should first know how - and that is happening on success update only :) I have converted 5 macs already by same metodic, first one still running with no issues and apply for new updates with no errors.

Sorry to say this SSD won't work in your system.

M.2 SSD's are different than what Apple uses which is a custom design just for them.

The adapter you are using likely is not translating the interfaces cleanly. I've seen this a few times and some will appear to work and then have lot of CRC errors so you'll build up failed cells more quickly. Our testing shows these adapter setups are not that great.

Best to just get either a 3rd party SSD designed to Apple's specs from OWC or Transcend or look on eBay for a real Apple SSD.

I read that this one should work, but not any clear explanation how to make it work :)

Sorry you get what you paid for here, a cheap solution when the more expensive solution works. Don’t get me wrong! If I can get something cheaper which is just as good then it makes sense. Memory & Storage are always iffy as you often get burnt.

Dan, big price do not mean quality :) chip-set is same, regular users are to dumb to solve such technical questions usually. :) But like me, I dont look for easy way :)

의 답변

Its a bit more that chips! There is signal line discontinuities from a bad trace path and the addition of a second connector interface that cause the errors.

I have no love for Apple Corp and I speak independently as a volunteer here.

I can tell you over the years what appear to be a great idea often can come back to haunt you later. Here your SSD will wear out sooner as the error rate is much higher than what the other SSD's offer without going with an adapter to do it.

well I have backup setup so dont care of lose any valued info on it, its cost me only 130, then original cost 500 so I may replace them 3 times :D will see how its goes - add this to my bookmarks, will report if its fails
