Booting MacBook Air remotely

Hi there

I was able to boot up my MacBook to an external monitor yesterday. But nothing wants to work today. I have managed to see the screen for a short time but it wants me to enter the password. I am unable to get the mouse or its own keyboard or even an external keyboard to work. Thanks
