Light on, drive spinning, but unable to access files?

I have a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB USB 3.0 that has some important files I need to access on it. When I plug it in, the light turns on as normal, I can hear it spinning, but neither my Windows 10 PC or my Mac OSX 10.10.5 recognize it, and it doesn't show up in disk management either. The USB ports work fine and so does the the cable. Is there something I'm missing? Is my drive dead? Is there any way for me to access my files?

If you put your ear to it is the device making any noises other than the spinning of the drive like clicks or beeps or anything out the usual... How did the device stop working was it dropped disconected without being ejected ? or did it just stop working one day. whats the age and use rate of the device is it used heavily or just as a backup?

No clicking, sounds normal. Nothing out of the usual other than it isn't recognized. Device is a couple months old, used almost daily since I got it. It's being used to store footage for a film I shot and am now editing. I have other backups of the footage, but I realized there's some stuff I forgot to double-backup onto another drive, so it's stuck on this one. I had the drive with me in my backpack as I traveled right before it stopped working, so I think it could have gotten damaged, but it was unplugged at the time . Hope this helps.

could you give me the exact model of the drive, also have you tried another cable I know you said the cable works on another device but have you tried another cable on the faulty hdd as hard drives are picky about there cables !

I'm having the same problem with my Seagate Free Agent Go Flex 1.5 TB. I can hear and feel it spinning, but no computer is seeing it. I have changed cables as well. No luck.

Hi , I have a 2 TB Seagate , external hard drive . The usb port where you plug the hard drive it was broke , after this I connect with SATA cable to the computer , HDD is spinning normal but cannot be recognize , I try with 3 computers .

What can I do to see all files and save them ?
