Replaced Disc reader and still won't read disc

Replaced Disc reader and still won't read disc

I just replaced the laser disc reader on my Fat PS2 and it still doesn't read, but the odd thing is when I placed the Disc in the tray like normal, the disc spins for a second then stops. I know it's not the reader so what is it?

@oldturkey03 Son of a ##&&%, I think you're right. Take a look at this: the old one is from the console itself and the new one is the one I got from Ebay.

@sheppardsr1 when you say the "laser disc reader" are you referring to the laser assembly?

Yeah, it reads and spends the desk for a second then stops, when I fired it up it's shutters back-and-forth I don't know if that's normal or not but it does that and then when I put a disc in it spins for a second and then stops

@sheppardsr1 there are differences between models etc. so you always want to make sure that you change like for like...any numbers on your assemblies? Hard to see on your pictures. BTW thanks for posting those.

@oldturkey03 The old one has a "D" in the upper right hand corner of the assembly and the newer one says "KHS-4000" Below the "Sony" logo. I have a feeling that goes to either a Slim version or a later version of the PS2 Fat.

@sheppardsr1 that should be a KHS-400C If your old one was a KHS-400D your 400C will not work. There were some mods out to make them compatible.....
