iPhone 5 randomly hanging up or rebooting after battery replacement

Hello. I recently replaced my iphone 5 battery following the instructions on the video tutorial.

As clues on the possible cause of my issue, I can say removing the battery was quite difficult due to the strong glue; I only applied force on the places shown on the tutorial video, and avoiding the area around the pull tab, but now that I have also read the text guide, I see it actually suggested to pry only at the outside edge of the phone (not the 3 places in the video)

In any case, now the battery works ok; it charges normally and is not otherwise "stuck"; it can last for a long while even playing a youtube video at maximum brightness, for example.

But, now the phone randomly gets "frozen" or more rarely, restarts. Sometimes after hours, or just minutes. When it gets "frozen", the only solution is to restart the phone by holding down the power and home buttons.

A couple of times, when it restarts instead of getting frozen, colors on the screen may glitch for a second before reboot.

Thanks for any help on how to try and fix it.

p.s. I already tried restoring the iphone to factory settings; the problem remains. I was thinking about upgrading iOS to the latest version just to see if something changes.

Hi all. My problem is fixed and so I'll report with the hope that it will help someone in the future.

I tried re-opening the case, disconnecting and connecting all the cables again, and re-closing the phone.

I tried to notice if there was any damage as described by @benjamen50 , but could not see; maybe it was present but I don't have enough expertise nor a magnifying glass. It is likely that this damage (or another) is still present somewhere, because after closing the phone the same problem persisted: Random hangups and reboots, which seemed to be even more frequent than before reopening the case.

However, before finally giving up, I tried upgrading iOS from the version that I had been using for years; iOS 7 if i'm not mistaken) to the "latest" offered by itunes (I think it is iOS 10; forgive me for not informing the precise version details but I don't know much about iOS versions) and since then, it's been more than 24 hours without any hangup or reboot.

My gut feeling is that whatever damage or defect, either caused by me or present in my unofficial replacement battery, was enough to make iOS 7 crash but in iOS 10 it doesn't cause anything visible. Take into account that I never had any problems with iOS 7 before replacing the battery, and that also the first thing I tried was reinstalling iOS7, so it's not just the reinstalling that fixed it, but actually changing to a different iOS version.

Thanks to Ben for taking the time to respond!

Check if the small SMD components right above the battery connector are missing or damaged.

Usually they get damaged when not unplugging the battery carefully with fingernails.

Random rebooting / lag can also be caused by a bad battery too.
