Hold button doesn't 'click'?

I replaced my dock connector and screen.

After desoldering and soldering I put everything back together, but the hold button does not 'click'.

It feels like it's already depressed, or like it's not depressing the clicker below it for whatever reason.

The ribbon clicker part of the hold button is connected to the whole dock assembly - the clicker does click when I press it, though the top part of the circle isn't as responsive as the bottom part. But it is new, so it should work.

The original ribbon part had adhesive on the bottom to make it stick to the part with the 2 small sticking up parts on the sides. I used a little glue but I don't know if that really made it stick well. Could it be pushing up against the black plastic part and make it not work (in which case I'll get some stronger glue), or shouldn't that matter and am I missing something?

It does seem to be pretty flush with the new screen.

I have to wait for a new battery to see if the button does or doesn't respond, but since I can't feel it 'click' I think it probably won't work?

How can I fix the hold button?

Home Button Fix. I have repaired a bunch of 2g, but never had to get under the Home Button flex pad. But from the symptoms you are describing and more experience I have with iPhone 3 series Home Buttons, I would check when you get a chance that the surface under the Home Buttom flex pad is flat and smooth. I have no real experience with the 2g pad however. Maybe the glue has made an uneven base for the pad so it deforms the pad wrong when you press the overlying Home Button. I know the 2g is very difficult to repair so check this area again as a last resort.

Good luck,

Brad

Thanks! I used very little glue though, so the surface underneath the pad is smooth and flat.. Also, the pad itself does click OK - just not anymore when I put the other part of the button on top of it..

I think I'll try putting some extra padding in between the top and pad parts?

Update: The replacement battery got here today, I soldered that in (thank you YouTube) and put the whole thing back together. It's actually working! Yaaayyyy! Sweet victory!

I added a few pieces of the yellow sticky-tape that was in the phone somewhere underneath the top part of the hold button. It still doesn't 'click' but it finally has some 'give' and although you can't really feel it when you press the button, the phone does respond to the button being pressed very well, function over form I guess :).
