Aperture for my photo editing on Sierra

I am running Mavericks on a Mid 2009, 17 inch MBP. Would like to upgrade to Sierra but am an avid user of Aperture for my photo editing. I don"t want to loose that feature.

Can I upgrade to Sierra and safely keep Aperture.?

Update (06/24/2018)

I am presently running MacBook Pro. 17" Version 10.9.5 ,

Memory 8 GB 1333MHz DDR3

Processor 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo

I cannot upgrade from the computer and I also no longer have the apple store working for some reason.

I am running : Aperture Version 3.51

Any suggestions how to upgrade to Sierra I thought it was a free upgrade?

I’m running Sierra 10.12.6 on a 2009 Mac Pro that I flashed from a 4.1 to 5.1,

I just opened my Aperture Version 3.6 with no issues.

Thanks for your information. What are the procedures for adding Sierra , where do I get a copy. And basically how do I do it.

Thanks again for any further help.

Whoa, you asked one question and got a good answer. Then you opened a can of worms on me. Do one at a time, tell me EXACTLY what you are running, machine and system and why.

When I answered this the first time, I didn't have the information I now have.

You're running the near final version of Aperture Apple released before discontinuing it. Aperture 3.5 received a 10.10 stability update, so I don't think you will have any problems in your specific case since it's such a new version. However there's still no guarantee it'll run.

What I would do is make a Time Machine backup of your current setup (Backup EVERYTHING) and image your hard drive so you have something to fall back on, should it not work. However, it's not a hard requirement if you purchased 10.9 from the Mac App Store since you can purchase 10.6 for $20 and use that to access the app store and download 10.9 again. Unless your WiFi card is bad (internal) and you're using an external one, you shouldn't have a problem with 10.6. Apple does NOT like 3rd party adapters being able to access the store.

@nick Much better answer but as you can see, I am running version 3.6

I was going off of what I can find on Wikipedia to see what the final version is. I see no mention of 3.6 there, but I've made a small edit that accounts for 3.6 being released. In most cases I prefer to use a working high hour drive with a new install, but most people don't keep old drives around; that's why I suggested imaging.

I'd imagine 3.6 is another stability update like 3.5 was.

@nick I updated from the APP store in August 2015

I see. 3.5 is the final DVD release and 3.6 is a App store update or re-release.
