Bottom LCD faded after HD replacement

I just used the fantastic Hard Drive replacement guide to upgrade my drive to 1TB, and all works well...

However, now the lower half of my LCD is slightly faded.

If I put the computer to sleep and wake it again, the screen momentarily appears normal, before fading down below.

Other than replacing the LCD, it there a possibility of reopening the iMac and fixing what I unknowingly changed?

This is the very question that brought me to iFixit in the first place and I still don't know the answer for sure. I tagged a whole bunch of questions "half screen problem" if you want to do a search. We may now have new people with better answers than I found. top half of screen is greyed out

I have this same machine ( a EMC 2266) sitting on my work bench with a fading upper portion of the screen. I have no idea of how to fix it. Any ideas would help.

How about it Dan?

Can you post an image of the screen with your question? Or in your case, the answer;-) Some views of the connector and the cable would be great as well. What have you tried so far about the troubleshooting? do you have access to the number of the LCD (I suspect it to be a LM240WU2)

In the 2266 the LCD screen has four power supply cables for the CCFLs. The connectors are keyed, so if inserted correctly (looks like they could be forced), the CCFLs will light. The half screen suggests that at least one of those power connectors was not connected or not connected correctly. CCFLs usually rely on DC current, so the connectors cannot be reversed and still work.
