Hi y’all,
Just got the latest Mac mini and I need to add an external power button to it with long wires so I can turn it on and off from a distance. In the previous models I was always able to trace back the wires to the pins and splice the cables but with this ultra flat cable now, anyone knows where I need to add my wires?

If you are trying to setup a media server (or other server) you can setup wake on LAN which is what I would do.

Thank you @danj , I think I figured it out and I’ll post my result on this forum cause, hey, might be useful for others. This year’s Mac mini’s layout makes it difficult to figure out which pins are the button ones because of the 8-pin flat cable. But I think I found them. I’ll try to turn it on and let you know hehe
Do keep in mind if you alter the logic board or cable connection you will void your warranty!
@danj did they get rid of the IR control?
@mayer yes, they ditched the IR control. There is no more black piece of plastic under the sleep light which is where the IR sensor used to be.
Sadly, I don't see any sensor window in the IFIXT teardown. Bluetooth or WiFi would be the only way you might be able to turn it on remotely wirelessly. I have mine (2011) setup to wake on LAN.

I’d love to know how to bypass the switch I broke mine. I juts need to get it turned on !
