Is it possible to add English subtitles to a dvd
I have a rare DVD without subtitle and I’d very much like to add subtitles. Is that possible? If do, how? Thank you

PS: yes my TV is ALWAYS set to “subtitles ON”

Unfortunately not. DVD’s, especially non-writable ones, are encrypted and set as read only. So you won’t be able to write subtitles to the disk/disc. (However you want to spell it)

I also have a problem with a few DVD's. Some DVD's will play subtitles on one DVD player but not on the other. Some DVD's will not play subtitles at all. This leads me to believe that the problem lies with my Sony DVD player and my Sanyo DVD player. The vast majority of my DVD's WILL play subtitles. Example: The film "The last Days of Patton" . When I click on the remote "subtitles" , I see a choice of OFF or English. Of course, I click on English. All happy, I sit down to enjoy my new DVD. So, even though the TV screen has confirmed that I will be seeing subtitles, there are none. Can it be that one brand of DVD player WILL PLAY subtitles, but others do not ?
Any thoughts you may have on this subject will be appreciated.

I'm not really sure. A few stabs I could make are the chip being used (if subtitles are hardware-supported) the way the DVD'S being read (internation/single-region player) or if the subtitle files even exist on the disc itself. I'm more of a computer person, so I'm nit sure. Will do some research.
Good luck!
Is there such a thing as a DVD player that will play subtitles from all DVD's ? (assuming it is region #1 ?) Currently I have a Sony that will play subtitles on "Band of Brothers" but my Sanyo will not. Very weird
Maybe an "international" model? I guess it depends on the hardware, like I said.
