Why my PS2 not turning on

When I press the power button the red light goes green but again it turns red.

This seems to be a "general fault"-type error and there's a myriad of possibilities of what it could be. Could be a bad power supply, a damaged power switch, dirty motherboard, a bad capacitor on the motherboard, or a bad laser cable. I'd start by opening it up and doing a thorough cleaning.
