mediakit reports bad partition or no map found

Hello Gurus,

I brought SDD 1TB hard disk last year. it was working perfectly till yesterday. suddenly, my system restarted itself and stuck at booting with question mark folder symbol. So, i thought to reinstall the macos. when i try to erase my hard disk thru disk utility(internet recovery). hard disk is not mounting.

so, i removed sdd hard disk and connected to other system to erase. when i try to erase this hard disk, it says “mediakit reports bad partition or no map found”. not sure whats going on with this hard disk.

any suggestion is appreciated

Thanks

Your facing a known issue! Your systems HD SATA cable has failed MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable. and here’s the guide you’ll ned to follow MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive Cable Replacement. Beyond this you do want to place a strip of electricians tape on the uppercase where the cable crosses over. And lastly you don’t want to fold the cable! This is a common issue I encounter as people crease the cable and then damage it. What you want is a nice arc at the fold points. I find either a bamboo cooking skewer or the ink straw of a ball point Bic pen is the best radius to shape the cable against.

Once you get the cable installed you’ll want to then backup your drive and reformat using Disk Utility and then re-installing your OS. Then restore your user accounts, apps & data.

Let say my hard disc cable went wrong.

But Why i m not able to erase my hard disc when i connect to another mac disk utility?

I m thinking hard disk got corrupted.

This gets into the ability of a drive to push or pull data from the system more or less effectively. A typical HDD is just not able to fill the SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) pipe unlike the the SSD which is much more able to fill the pipe.

So when we have a cable that's fatigued the signal can often get through at the lower rate but as you up the data rate things breakdown. This is why it appears to work with some actions like you did but now have encountered errors. Unlike HDD's SSD's just don't get corruption in the same way.

Think it like how your stereo's volume can push your speakers to hard so you loose the range and the sound just get bad. If you had cheaper speakers then it would happen sooner.

Installing Hard drive cable worked. thanks for suggesting
