The backlight goes off after the logo whe I turn on the tv.

Block Image

I have a vizio tv p502ui-b1 and when i turn the tv on the logo shows up and then the backlight goes off and after like 20 to 30 seconds the tv turns off and the led in the bottom-left corner starts blinking for 20 seconds. I can still hear sound and i can see a image with the flashlight and also, when the tv has turn off, if i leave the tv plug to the power outtlet the led keeps blinking then stops for sometime and then it starts again and it keeps going like this.

Inside the tv there are 4 pcb: power board on the left, mainboard in the right, backlight driver board in the middle and a fourth board, below the driver board, that i don’t know what it does.

I don’t know what’s wrong with the tv and i haven’t try to change the EEPROM since the backlight does work everytime that i turn the tv on so i don’t really know if that’s the problem.

hope you guys or girls can help me and sorry if my grammar is bad, english is not my first language.

my problem was in the main board, more specifically the main chips that because of the heat the soldering balls were not longer doing a good contac to the board and so i put the board on the oven at 400 F° for 10 min and the tv work again but i really don´t recommend using an oven because is allways better to just use a soldering station to blow hot air directly into the chip but i don´t have this equipament.

Count me in as one of the "Baker Boys" ! Yesterday (05/12/20) I read about this half-baked idea of baking the main board for 10 minutes at 400. So after reading that it worked for a whole bunch of people, that's what I did. I removed the main of my Vizio tv p502ui-b1 50" (See ShopJimmy vid for this model.) pulling off the sticky foam pads, putting it on parchment paper (cardboard) on a cookie sheet, pre-heating the oven to 400, leaving the oven on and baking the board for 10 minutes. Let it cool and reinstall being mindful of the putting the ribbon connectors back in correctly. . Also, resecuring the foam pads, rayon ("silk") or white hospital tape should work fine. Plug in the TV, wait for 5 minutes (ShopJimmy says Vizios require this before restart.) Turn it on and hold your breath . . . Got the "V" (which used to disappear for good, then the power light would flash 15 or so times) then a few seconds later got the signal readout across the top . . . Then "No Signal" . VICTORY !!! For now . . .

One guy said this worked for him for 1 hour. Another guys said he was a "hero" to his kids but it lasted 3 weeks. Another guy said his was going strong for 4 months. One guy said it didn't work for him. Plenty of others said this worked. Again, for how long ? . . . And do I get a main board ($65 - $119 ) while they last ?

This was NOT a power board problem for me. Plenty of Youtube vids on this esp. if you are good at soldiering but "eeprom" fixes often don't work. 2019 TV's are cheap right now but are going fast. Ive been researching all of the for 2 weeks.

Baking your board is worth a try. In addition to my symptoms above the red Optic Sound light did stay on for a while after the "V" disappears upon power up (bottom panel next to component audio and coax cable ports) so maybe that indicates the power board is OK and main board problem.

Also, I baked the board face up, just like you took it out. Don't flip it to bake it. Maybe some coconut and cinnamon would give you Smell-a- Vison ? . . .

I was able to fix a Vizio P502-uib1 and P702-uib3 using the "baker's method". The 502 has been in use for a month since with no issues, the 702 was just fixed last week, so we'll see how long it holds up.

FWIW, when I picked up these TVs, they were having slightly different issues. The 502 would just flash its power light, with no screen activity. The 702 would light up the Vizio logo on the screen, and then go dark.
