Rear camera not working after swapping into new chassis.

I bought a used back case for my phone from iFixIt. I carefully swapped everything over according to the guide. I replaced the battery with a new one and replaced my cracked screen as well. Everything seemed to be working until I went to take a picture. The app opens for half a second and then closes again. I tried all of the fixes online except for the factory reset. I do not believe this to be a software issue, but possibly something I did wrong.

I took the phone back apart but can’t find anything that looks odd or out of place. The thing is, when you transfer the motherboard you don’t even disconnect the camera. However, I did the old “unplug it and plug it back in” anyway. First I unplugged the battery then unplugged and replugged the rear camera, then the battery. Still the phone app simply opens for half a second and then closes.

What could I have messed up? I would just get a replacement camera but I’m very doubtful that would fix it.

Try backing up the phone and just system restore it.

Did that. Nothing changed. Replaced both cameras with ones from ifixit. Still no help. The camera app just crashes.

i actually just dealt with this same issue with the same exact model of device. What ended up happeneing to the device, we did end up replacing the rear camera, that did fix the issue with the camera crashing moments after it was opened. I do have to ask if you can open your camera app to the selfie camera or does that crash as well?

So replacing the rear camera fixed the issue? I just did a factory reset which of course did not fix the issue, but changed it. Now the camera app will stay open for a few seconds but I get the error "the camera device encountered a fatal error." Changing to the selfie camera doesn't help. I still get the same error after a few seconds.

I am also having this issue, just replaced the rear camera for my step dad’s phone, and the app just opens up but with black screen then closes after a few seconds saying that the app in unavailable, I need to first back everything up and perform a factory reset; hopefully this repairs the software part of the problem… Any suggestions?
