Water damage, keys broken

Spilled water on my laptop a few weeks ago. I opened it up and let it dry, and all works except a column of keys on the keyboard ( 8, I, K, ,).

I replaced the keyboard with a replacement from amazon, but the same keys didn’t work.

Is this most likely to be a broken connection or a problem with the motherboard?

This would be a problem with the motherboard. It is usually in one or two of these spots:

Around the keyboard connector
The chip that translates the signals from the keyboard to the computer. This will vary depending on the model of the laptop, will require schematics to troubleshoot and fix or if lucky just cleaning / replacing said chip will fix it.
