Monitor goes to sleep mode on start up

I have a Power Mac G3. When I start it up, I get the start up sound and the green light is on at the start button. The monitor just goes into sleep mode. We have tried using different monitors and also replaced the battery and the video card. Does anyone have any other ideas ast o what I can try? Thanks for your help.
