Ripped of power supply from motherboard, looks complicated!

Hi there,

I'm sure you've seen this problem many of times. My ps4 was making a horrible noise from fan, I replaced the fan to end up ripping the power supply of the motherboard… Brilliant. Looking online couldn't find anyone talking about fixing a ps4 pro power supply. It looks more complex than a ps4. The motherboard is confusing me, I want to solder it but I'm a bit of noob when it comes to this stuff!

Suggestions?

Hi Joshua!

I bet the only solution to fix it, is to solder it again. Please check the copper traces, as there is still copper on the connector it self… If the traces are damaged you need to fix this first before you solder the connector to it.

If you don’t have experience with soldering, you could check if there is a local repair store who can fix it for you.

Hi there!

Excuse my lack of knowledge in this kind of thing. I don't really know what a copper trace is, is that the copper coating on the end of the connector? I saw some videos online as some mentioned creating a new connection by rubbing down the contact points of the motherboard and power supply plug. Unfortunately taking it to someone seems unlikely, is this doable for a novice?

No problem! And yes, it's the copper coating on the end of the connector. There are traces on the board it self, if it's missing or damaged, then it won't make contact with the connector. You need solder it anyway, so that it makes contact again. if you don't have soldering experience it could be a little difficult to fix it. I attached a guide, just to determine if you want to do it by yourself or not:

Sorry to keep asking. So in most tutorials all you need is nickel and a soldering tool. But do I need copper as well? If I soldered the two together with a connection if nickel would that not work? I watched the video but she mentioned nothing about copper

No worries, I'm here to help :) ! You just need tin. If you solder the two together with tin, it should work.
