Check out the following and try out those steps. If they fail then you probably need a new microphone for the phone.

OMG, with all the cell phones I've had in my 70 years, this has never happened. And yes, I am Tech Savvy and 4etired Electronic Engineer. The phone is a Samsung A51, if that helps.

People can't hear me when I call them and when they call me

Have you tried what is suggested in the Most helpful Answer below?

What is the model number of your phone?

I am having the same problem with my brand new Motorola G stylus phone. I just paid $200 for this phone and now I can barely use it to make calls in. I also bought the case and screen protector that was recommended to go with the phone and the only thing I can figure out is that the screen protector is covering up the microphone. But as I can see by others reviews and comments I'm not the only person having this problem. So maybe it's just the phone. I don't think I'll buy another phone from Walmart. The last phone I bought was a piece of junk too. They test these phones before they sell them and they know the problems customers are going to have with them. That's why they always try to sell you the insurance on the phones at the checkout. They are getting people to pay this insurance that they know the customer will need because the phones are junk. Then they make a lot of money fixing problems with phones they sell that they knew had problems to start with.

Hi,

Try using a set of earphones with the microphone attachment to check if you can be heard when making or receiving a call.

Alternatively try using the phone in loudspeaker mode (hands free mode) to check if you can be heard when on a call.

If you can this proves that the voice transmission circuitry in the phone is OK and that there is a problem with the phone’s internal microphone or perhaps the voice inlet hole located on the bottom edge of the phone may be blocked either by a phone case (if the phone is in a case) or with lint etc.

If the phone is not in a case (if it is take it out and try it) use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the voice inlet hole.

If it appears to be blocked or even if you can’t tell, DO NOT use a pin or probe to try and clear it. Use a vacuum cleaner instead to try and suck out any obstruction.

If it still doesn’t work OK, try starting the phone in safe mode and check if it works.

If it works OK in safe mode then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You will have to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one and test the phone in normal mode between each uninstall until it works OK. When it does, the last downloaded app that was uninstalled was the culprit.

If it still doesn’t work OK when in safe mode try a factory restore (also known as a hard reset) of the phone.

Be aware that a factory restore will erase all your data and downloaded apps. It will restore the phone to its’ factory default condition or last system updated condition. That is why it is important to back up the phone to the cloud or a computer first using the phone’s backup feature.

Once you have backed up the phone, use the phone’s factory restore feature to reset the phone.

Once the phone has been reset back to default, check if it works OK.

If it still doesn’t work OK you have a hardware problem.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Motorola Moto E5 Plus guide which will help you to open the phone to gain access to the microphone so that it can be inspected and replaced if necessary.

If it works OK, restore the phone with the backup made earlier using the phone’s restore feature.

Once it has been restored to what it was, test if it still works OK.

If it does then the reset has resolved the problem

IF YOU CAN'T HEAR YOUR PHONE RINGING OUT ON SPEAKER PHONE , TURN OFF THE "TTY" SETTING.

This mutes the ringing out sound for hearing impaired folks.
