What exactly is the difference between a 2-lane a 1-lane EDP cable?

If both cables are EDP 30-pin, but one is 1-lane and one is 2-lane, then what really is the physical difference? Does the 2-lane just connect more pins with more internal wiring (so you will see 30 pin terminations but inside the cable a 1 lane has less wires than a 2 lane), or is there a quality difference like regular vs high speed HDMI cables? And if it’s more wiring inside the cable itself, how many extra wires does 2-lane use vs 1-lane? Is the 2-lane pinout standard or do different 1080p+ screens use different pinouts?

In the case of it being a wiring difference between the terminal plugs, does that mean you could take apart a regular 1-lane cable and solder new wires to make it a 2-lane cable?

I also want to note that I'm concerned about the pinout compatibility when I get the new screen. Is the pinout at the female motherboard connector always the same in terms of data/power/ground lines, or can the manufacturer customize where those pins are?
