Firestick remote connection problems

Hi guys I have a problem trying to connect my remote to the fire stick.

The problem is that I have recently changed my broadband provider so it needs to connect again. Also I was using my phone as a remote.

I'm using a friend's remote to try connect again but it won't connect to remote as I have a app installed which opens up automatically on the firestick . Then goes into standby mode Any advise or help????
