SSD Upgrade from 512GB to 1TB on MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2015 Retina Displ

i read some forums on this subject but im not sure i got my answer, i’ve reached my macs limit, had to delete alot of stuff this last months, and i was looking to replace my battery since it goes from 40% to 0 and shutting off in one second sometimes, so i thought to replace my SSD from the factory ssd that i have of 512GB to a 1TB SSD, but i want to know if theres any compatibility issues, i read on another forum that only apple and OWC make ssd replacements, but is there any problem like will my mac only read 512GB when i have 1 TB or will it use the whole 1000GB

I did the upgrade on my Early 2015 MACBOOK pro using the OWC 1TB and it was easy and Ive had zero problems.

Hi,

There shouldn’t be any problem with using the whole disk space after the upgrade.

I would stick with one of the recommended suppliers as I’ve had problems getting hold of compatible Mac SSDs in the past.

All the best,

Alan

is there by any chance any way to clone my current ssd to the new 1tb ssd, cause i still want to keep all files and applications

@dullatpg Yes, do a complete Time Machine backup to a spare external hard disk, put the new SSD in the Mac and when you reboot you should have the option of restoring your system from the Time Machine backup

ok, the ssd will be empty so will i have to install mac os from a usb bootdrive?

@dullatpg No, when you boot up with a blank SSD the act of restoring from a Time Machine backup will also install the operating system.

ok, thank you for the help, appreciate it
