1 New Hardrive but my iMac still not working

I’ve been in trouble with my old (early 2008 iMac )
The problem was it was starting correctly but after it, I can’t do anything, like open an app or use the utilities, open a files…. Just the rainbow circle been loading for ages
So I can just turn it off manually
I’ve been trying all the reset PRAM , S , C
and after discuss with you on ifixit, the best solution was to change the hard drive
So now I have a new one , but after the installation with the 2 disc. it keep freezing, on the first parameters when you do the installation, freezing on my personal information after completing them and press continue, the rainbow happen again and keep charging forever…
So I would like to know if I need to add more RAM or anything , or if is better for me to stop putting money on it and give it away

Apple iMac 20-Inch "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 (Early 2008) Specs
Identifiers: Early 2008 - MB323LL/A - iMac8,1 - A1224 - 2210
The Original HD was a Western Digital WD2500AAJS. 250GB TRNDA 655. 1358D
And I replaced it with a Seagate HDD 3.5 SATA II. 250GB
So as I check before my iMac should support it

Do you still have the grey disks that came with your system. One of them should have diagnostics. Try booting up under it, lets see if you get any errors. Let us know what you get.

How much RAM do you have? What OS are you trying to install. IMO you should have bought an SSD

Given the age of the system I don't think its wise to over do it.
I love SSD's, this is such an old system its over kill, and besides most SSD's are SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) while this system can only handle a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive.
Sadly, I don't think the drive is the issue here which is why we need to run diagnostics.

Yes I have the grey disc, but I can't boot up with it , because I did the installation already on the hard rive (Mac OS X El Capitan) and when I start the computer is going straight away on the 30 second clip with all the welcome in different language, and ask me to set up my language and everything... (Hope I'm clear)
Also I still can do a boot on Command S . and everything seems to be ok

@Messer Im not sure about the RAM should be the smallest from the factory they build with , I can't add an SSD as my iMac is to hold to support it..
