Grinding, Whirring and Shaking - Kenmore 80 Series Washer

We have a Kenmore 80 Series Washer (Model 110.27812692).

Last week it started banging and shuddering during the spin cycle.

Over the weekend I replaced the clutch and the transmission.

Over the last four years I’ve replaced the drive motor, coupling, and agitator dogs

Upon reassembly, it will fill, agitate, drain, rinse and spin.

The tub seems more shaky than before and there is a slight grinding noise and also a high pitched whine. I’ve checked the springs and pads, adjusted the legs (rear is self leveling) and swapped the motor coupling.

My next thought is the main tub bearing.

While I wait for that to come in, will running the machine damage anything else, like:

  • will a potentially bad tub bearing damage the new transmission?
  • could I be damaging the basket drive?

And, based on the description, what’s likely making the noises or causing the imbalance (not bad enough that it hits the case, just seems more shaky than two weeks ago)?

  • could the jamming transmission have flattened motor bearings?
  • could the jamming transmission have flattened the tub bearings?

Thanks for all the help this site provides.
